There is a meme that we haven’t been able to stop thinking about:
“I’d like to cancel my subscription to 2021. I was not satisfied with the 7-day free trial.”
We laughed, others we showed laughed, then we all wanted to cry a bit. Because it's pretty spot on.
At first glance, it was as if everyone expected one of two things to happen at midnight January 1st: al-a-Avengers style the world would completely implode, we would cease to exist. Or magically, everything would be fixed and back to normal.
Instead, we seem to be in limbo. No one, not even those in charge, really knows what to do. Nothing is getting better. We are tip-toeing the line leaning towards worse. As if we’re on a precipice that could be prevented. In the meantime, we've gotten glimpses of exactly how bad it could get i.e. some Canadian cities averaging 2-3 covid related deaths a day, to right-wing extremists storming the US capitol senate.
In the interest of attempting to salvage this year, the bright side to 2020 leaking into 2021: were better prepared. Stricter restrictions and a second lockdown? We already survived the first! There’s a saying about things not killing you making you stronger right? Let’s run with that.
Businesses have had to make some difficult decisions in the past ten months. Truly it has been a time to adapt or die (both literally and figuratively). The shift has been virtual consultations with doctors, specialists, your esthetician.
The beauty industry has, however reluctantly, created home care packages that you can pick up or in some instances, have delivered. Addressing skin and hair needs as best as they can to keep you feeling your best and while keeping them afloat. Until a time comes when restrictions are lifted, doors can open, and capacity numbers are no longer limited.
Quarantine act one really got the best of people. In act two, let’s persevere and lend a hand to those trying to do the same.
